ELKO - A coroner's inquest into the death of 3-year-old Ricardo Ortega began Tuesday with the hysterical voice of the boy's baby-sitter during a 9-1-1 call.

The probe continues today with details of the detectives' investigation.

Elko District Attorney Gary Woodbury has questioned more than half of the two dozen witnesses who were to testify in the case in Elko Justice Court. The inquest was scheduled to be finished today.

Tuesday's proceedings began with Woodbury playing the 9-1-1 call Ortega's baby-sitter, Sherry Fisherman, made Sept. 27 at 12:09 p.m.

Fisherman sounded hysterical while she told the 9-1-1 dispatcher that Ortega was unresponsive and his arms kept stiffening up. This call led to Elko firefighters and a tribal police officer being called to Fisherman's home at 1770 Redwood St. on the Elko Indian Colony.

1. What is being done?

It is now the 20th of January and what has been done in this case?

Sherry Fisherman's daughter Melissa Eidson was arrested after being charged with the murder.

Why is it taking so long to sort out the details?

Is it because of Sherry's criminal record or inconclusive evidence against Melissa?
