Daughter is thinking of moving there
She is looking at Henderson. She will be graduating next year with her BA in Elementary Education. She would like to get her Masters in Special Ed. Is there a demand for teachers there?

I would consider it also. I have worked as a Special Ed TA for 5 years. Right now I am working with developmentally challenged adults. I have an Associates Degree. Would I be able to find work also?

I would prefer to either rent or buy a condo. How is the market? We are planning to come for a visit sometime next summer when she is off from school and I have vacation time. Any suggestions?

1. Clark County School District includes Henderson
CCSD is ALWAYS looking for teachers -- and I think special ed is a biggie. UNLV offers a grad program in Special Ed (among other types). One potential problem is the pay.
I'm not sure about how you would fare; take a look at the website:
http://ccsd.net/jobs/

It's a big site, browse around.

On the real estate market; I'm no expert, but it looks like it's starting to soften a tad -- so much new development, condo conversions, etcetera. Depending on where you're at now, you may choke at the prices. If you visit in later summer (August) you'll get a better sense of the heat. Our hottest day last year was 117 degrees in July (and that's without the "concrete effect" that adds another 5 or 6 degrees, depending on where you are). Right now, it's almost 8 pm and 56 degrees (winter is pretty much over here).

Good luck, whatever you both decide.

2. Hottest recorded was over 120 last year.
Henderson is where I live.

EVERY part needs teachers - we had a serious shortage last fall and they were desparate AGAIN to hire more.

Cost of living is great if you've already had a home for about 5 years, sucks if you're comming from outside to buy now. Las Vegas has among the nation's highest prices - can't buy anything for under 300 thou now.

They're building more, but all high end. School district is considering enacting legislation that will somehow develope "affordable" housing for teachers, nurses and police - all of which are in a shortage now because of our continually booming economy.

Even unskilled people can find plenty of good paying jobs here.

Know of any architects? - we desparately need some more in OUR firm NOW! I'm tired of working 60-80 hour weeks.
