Nonstory

To the editor:

For two days in a row, you publish these stories about this inebriated waitress who reported, recanted and reported an assault. This story belongs in the Enquirer or Globe, possibly in the Sun, not in a "serious" newspaper. One could almost see it as an "illegal" campaign contribution to the Democratic contender for the governor's job.

I hope this is finally an end to this nonstory. I am sure these kind of "assaults" happen by the dozen every night in any bar in Sin City and no one makes a big deal of them.

I can't believe how "unbiased" this letter is. The LVRJ is a RW rag (I'm sure there's been posts on this) but Mr. G assumes the "liberal news" is out to get his "man."

1. Wait until you see the next 10 days in the R-J

Especially if there is a videotape that contradicts Mazzeo's story, which is what KLAS is saying tonight. The R-J will unleash its editorial board and the readers comments and the other writers to make one wild claim after another, Democrats responsible for every ill and preventing every cure.

It's going to be a bizarre 10 days if the report of a videotape is true, in the papers, TV and everywhere. I was numb tonight when KLAS reported the story, rooting like hell for them to say the video supported her claim. This story potentially impacts all the statewide races.

3. Supposedly it doesn't show anything

Gibbons and Mazzeo don't appear at all. Big deal. That calls into question the validity of the tape in terms of where and when. Plus, maybe she was slightly off in terms of where the episode occured. They call her absurd and incoherent and drunk then insist she remembers precisely where the assault happened.

Unless they have camera covering the entire garage and slightly outside the garage during the time frame, you can't reject her story.
