Budget Vigils in NH this week

Congress is expected to vote on the proposed $50 billion in budget cuts this week. These deep cuts will hurt middle and low income people in our state – and across the nation. At a time when poverty and hunger are on the rise in our country, cutting funding to school lunch programs, Medicaid and food stamps is quite simply - immoral.

On Wednesday, December 14 vigils will be taking place around the country. The budget as a moral document is the theme. The Council of Churches will be joining forces nationwide with other groups to send a strong message to our elected officials – that The Budget Cuts are Immoral and Dangerous.

Vigil with us:
Concord: from 12 -1 pm in front of Congressman Bass’ office on N. Main St. (across from the State House)

Manchester: from 4-5:30 in front of Congressman Bradley’s new office location at 33 Lowell St.

Call Bass or Bradley:

We are asking you to call your Congressman and tell him that you want him to vote NO on the deep budget cuts. Our friends at the AFSC are (again) generously providing a toll free number for us all to use. Calls can be made all week, beginning on December 12. The number to call is: 1-800-426-8073. The switchboard will then connect you with Bass or Bradley’s office.


Other programs that will be cut include: foster care, child support payment collection, low interest student loans and SSI. This is simply not acceptable – and now is the time to make our voices heard!

1. 30 people in Concord

And it was COLD.

About 30 folks braved the 15F temps to stand in front of Bass's and Gregg's offices, with yellow and black signs reading, "Don't cut school lunch programs to fund tax cuts for millionaires," and things of that sort.

Gonna be chilly in Manchester.
