The brother of a family friend of ours has been killed in Iraq. --- New Hampshire Marine Killed In Iraq
(CBS4) SALEM, NH Lance Cpl. Robert Moscillo, 21, a 2003 graduate of Salem High School, died early Tuesday in Iraq, his sister said. He is the ninth serviceman from New Hampshire killed in Iraq.
"He was on his way back after being out and he was in the back. They hit a land mine and it killed him. Everyone else was wounded," Sandra Moscillo said Wednesday.
Moscillo said her brother joined the Marines early last year and was sent to Iraq in February. "He was a good kid, loved his friends and family," she said.
He is the son of Frank and Donna Moscillo, who are divorced and live in Beverly, Mass., and Salem, respectively. Donna Moscillo was in California on Wednesday. A brother, David, 20, is in training with the Marines and another brother, Joseph, is a senior at Salem High.
Moscillo also is survived by a sister, Jenny, 13, and brother Frankie, 11, from his father's current marriage. The family is waiting for his body to be shipped back to the United States before making funeral plans.
Sandra Moscillo, 23, described her brother as an athletic, spiritual young man who was considering a career in the church after the Marines.
"He wanted to become a pastor," she said.
Moscillo said her brother enlisted to serve his country, but was becoming frustrated by conditions in Iraq. In a recent letter home, she said he complained about disorganization, and his work searching for roadside bombs.
"He couldn't wait to come home in six months," she said. "He just said he was not too excited about it ... he said sometimes (he) doubted waking up in the morning."
