SALEM, N.H. -- Days after getting some good news about their baby's health, some local parents become victims of a heartless crime.
Police said somebody stole money from one of the donation buckets set up by Salem High School students at Rockingham Park mall, which was intended to help raise money for baby Giovanni Guglielmo's medical procedure.
The infant suffers from a severe immune deficiency disease. His only chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant.
The donation bucket was reportedly stolen on Tuesday afternoon from the Sunglasses Hut kiosk by a well-dressed man in his late-30s with olive skin and dark hair, wearing a light blue shirt and khakis pants.
"The gentleman came up, said he was part the Giovanni fund, and he said he was here to pick up the donations," a mall employee said. "The kid that had the donations at Salem High was the only one that was supposed to be picking up the money. No one else was supposed to be touching the money."
The amount of money in the container is unknown. The donation buckets had been in the mall for about a month.
