This weekend is the annual convention of the New Hampshire
Democratic Party and Mr. Tesha and I will be there with
bells on.

Do any of you have any issues that you'd especially like
to see raised/pressed/reported on?

Remember, here's the current state of the state:

o Governor: John Lynch, a wimpy Democrat in his
second two-year term, not a big fan of brave
stands or clear policy unless pushed very hard.

o Executive Council (~five lieutenant governors):
Newly majority Democrat after ages of Republican
unanimity.

o State House: Newly majority Democrat for the first
time in ages and ages.

o State Senate: Newly majority Democrat for the first
time in even longer ages and ages.

o Congresscritters: 1st CD: Carol Shea Porter, a pretty
liberal, anti-war Democrat who replaced an entrenched
series of Republicans. 2nd CD: Paul Hodes, a pretty
liberal, anti-war Democrat who replaced Charlie Bass,
an entrenched Bushie in an entrenched Republican seat
(almost a century-long run save 2 years of Dick Swett,
a sort-of Democrat).

o Senators: Judd Gregg, arch Republicon, save for four
more years. John Sununu Jr., son of George the First's
chief of Staff John Sununu, up for election and rapidly
shifting leftwards in an attempt to con the rubes into
re-electing him. Katarina Swett, wife of Dick Swett, is
running for the Democratic nomination.

o In the news: We just passed into law gay civil unions,
an idea that was completely unthinkable 12 months ago
when Republicans held a lock on NH politics.

I think it's safe to say that there wasn't *ANYBODY*
there who was in favor of the war, and every time
anybody mentioned ending the war, all 519 delegates
jumped to their feet. The faster the pull-out proposed,
the stronger the response.

And, of course, the candidates are all in favor of
ending the war, even those who started the war.

God Bless every military person who is serving in Iraq/Afghanistan right now. I strongly regret that I am a disabled veteran and I cannot serve any longer. I pray and hope everyone serving from New Hampshire and beyond comes home safe and sound just as quick as possible.

Civil unions got a steady stream of applause every time
it was mentioned and it was mentioned often; the only
time it ever got soft-pedaled was by Lynch the Wuss
who mentioned he signed a bill that "guaranteed fairness
to all families" but *NEVER* mentioned it by name.

Kucinich got a roaring full-throated standing ovation
when he called for full federal marriage equality.

Well, Democrats had a great day here in the Granite State.

With 519 delegates and over 300 guests, we had the best-
attended convention in (I think) 24 years.

Biden, Kucinich, Dodd, Gravel, and Richardson addressed
us. Michelle Obama spoke for Barack, David Bonior spoke
for John Edwards, and some governor spoke for Clinton.

We also heard from our three candidates for US Senate
to replace John Sununu, Jr.

With regard to the Presidential race (and putting aside
my wish that Al Gore would step in), my top five choices
would be:

1. Dennis Kucinich
2. Dennis Kucinich
3. Dennis Kucinich
4. Bill Richardson
5. A tie between Chris Dodd and Mike Gravel

Holy cow was Kucinich on fire! he had the crowd roaring for
nearly his entire speech! If it were not for the media and
their "positioning of Dennis as unelectable, he'd be
president already! *EVERYTHING* he said, I agreed with!

Richardson was on target too, and an excellent speaker,
mixing up the motivational stuff with humor. I still need
to be better informed on his DLC ties, but I saw/heard
nothing to oppose him for today. I ended up having lunch
at the Richardson table and chatting with him for a few
minutes.

Dodd says the right things, but at least today, lacked
passion.

Gravel is worth hearing. They gave him the lousiest speaking
slot of the day (speaking while lunch was still wrapping up),
but, *DAMN!*, can he call it straight or what? He called for
laws to be passed that would criminalize conduct that furthered
the Iraqi war.

We got one "God Bless America!" -- it came from the Clinton
shill.

Michelle Obama called on us to pray for her husband's
candidacy.

Biden, well, maybe he can get some corporations to vote
for him 'cause the Tesha family won't be doing it.

Interesting sidelight: The "Draft Gore" folks asked to
speak but were told "no".

All in all, it was a great day to be a Democrat in NH!

that of course they don't cover Kucinich. They say that if they did then Kucinich would be elected president. Reporters he talked to are strongly against that idea.

20. Saw a great article on the convention

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Iraq was the top subject for presidential hopefuls addressing delegates at the state Democratic Party convention in New Hampshire today.

In a warm-up to tomorrow's nationally televised New Hampshire debate, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, Dennis Kucinich and Bill Richardson promoted themselves as the ones with the vision and answers for solving Iraq through diplomacy.

For instance, Dodd called for a surge in diplomacy instead of a surge in military power. Richardson said if elected, he would announce on his first day in office that America is going to get out of Iraq, with diplomacy.

Kucinich won the loudest applause when he said it is time to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, considered by many to be the architect of the war. He chided reporters, saying he gets the same rousing response around the country, and is just waiting to be discovered by the media.

This afternoon, former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel spoke of punishment, not diplomacy, saying the quickest way to end the war is to make it illegal. He also said fellow Democrats who voted to authorize the war aren't qualified to lead the country, even if they now regret the vote.

24. Jean Shaheen

Jean Shaheen is running for the U.S. Senate. It is time to replace John Sununu (thank God). Everyone get out and vote for Jean wherever you are and send Jean to Washington so she can do the work for us New Hampshirites and the country. Whereas John Sununu has been right up the President's deriear for the past x number of years on every issue from the Iraq War to the FISA Laws to the SCHIP funding, it is time to send Jean to Washington to get our civil liberties back, bring our troops home, stop the warrantless wiretaps and the phone companies turning over our phoine records to the government, and fund the SCHIP to cover the children in this state whho have no health insurance whatsoever. I have no children, but if I did, and I couldn't afford the insurance, which I already know I can't, I would be applying for SCHIP myself. It is time to send someone to Washington who is going to do the job and stand up for the working class people of the Granite State and Jean Shaheen is the person to do the job. Vote for Jean.

On the most petty level, we should get some payback for the Lewinsky affair. On a more prescient level, this administration has whittled away our civil liberties and simultaneously made us less safe (ask New Orleans how safe Homeland Security made them). Out sourcing a war to a closed bid for Halliburton, and now millions of dollars are missing, Iraq is not rebuilt, security firms are summarily killing civilians, and OH! the torture. Are we planning on being the opposition party any time soon, or is it more politically correct to be accomplices by doing nothing?

29. How do they think the North American Union will affect the U.S.?

I would like to know how the feel about the corporations and governments of the United States, Canada, and Mexico creating a North American Union. I want to know how this will affect the United States Markets, Industrialization, Health Care and how we will stand in the world as this issue continues to be pressed. Many Canadians are protesting this, in fact they wear the red/white ribbon, much like we wear the pink ribbon for the fight against cancer. Since most of our industry,textile,manufacturing jobs are going across the borders and overseas, just exactly how do they think this will affect us?

Canadian, U.S., and Mexican elites, including CEOS and politicians, have a plan to create common North American policies and further integrate our economies. This plan goes by various names and euphemisms, such as "deep integration", "NAFTA-plus", "harmonization", the "Big Idea", the "Grand Bargain", and the "North American Security and Prosperity Initiative". Regardless of which name your prefer, the end goal of all of these plans is to create a new political and economic entity that would supercede the existing countries. Advocates refer to it as a "North American Community", but it is also known as the North American Union (NAU). Theoretically, it would be similar to and competetive with the European Union (EU). The individual currencies of each country would be replaced by a common currency called the "Amero" and everything from environmental regulations to security would be brought in line with a common standard.

Vive le Canada.ca offers the following timeline as a resource to educate the general public about the progress of the three countries toward a new North American Union (NAU).

Vive le Canada.ca opposes the creation of the North American Union (NAU) because we believe it will mean the loss of Canadian sovereignty and democracy and hand over more power to giant, unelected corporations. We also believe that unlike the EU, the countries joining the NAU are not roughly equal in size and power and that this means the U.S. will most certainly be setting policy for all three countries. In March 2005, the leaders of Canada, Mexico, and the United States adopted a Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP), establishing ministerial-level working groups to address key security and economic issues facing North America and setting a short deadline for reporting progress back to their governments. President Bush described the significance of the SPP as putting forward a common commitment "to markets and democracy, freedom and trade, and mutual prosperity and security." The policy framework articulated by the three leaders is a significant commitment that will benefit from broad discussion and advice. The Task Force is pleased to provide specific advice on how the partnership can be pursued and realized

To that end, the Task Force proposes the creation by 2010 of a North American community to enhance security, prosperity, and opportunity. We propose a community based on the principle affirmed in the March 2005 Joint Statement of the three leaders that "our security and prosperity are mutually dependent and complementary." Its boundaries will be defined by a common external tariff and an outer security perimeter within which the movement of people, products, and capital will be legal, orderly and safe. Its goal will be to guarantee a free, secure, just, and prosperous North America.
