Chocolate Lab/Golden mix looking for a forever home
"Smutty" is looking for a forever home. He's between 15 - 20 months old, good with kids and cats, quite snugglye (some might say clingy even...)

Woman who rescued him writes "I adopted this dog from a somewhat crazy lady in Bradford. She was a back yard breeder who had bred too many dogs. Essentially she did not have the funds to care for them properly or the time either. We have had him for about 6 weeks. He was very under weight when we got him. He was eating horse poo and horse pellets. He has lived outside his whole life, apart from his time here. He is a loyal fella and very sweet. He will lay at your feet or sit on the couch with you for hours. He is for the most part potty trained....He is very food motivated and knows sit and down...but stay is hard because he is afraid to be alone. He is great with my kids and my cats, but doesn't like company, because he is afraid of other people."

His rescuer can't keep him because she doesn't have the time to address his fear and lack of confidence. I'll post a pic as soon as I get one. Anyone who has interest or advice, please feel free to PM me.

1. Now with picture!

This is the handsome young guy that needs a forever home.

That's a young child's arm you see hanging over his back - she was lying back against him - he loves it! Good with kids, cats and other dogs. Looking for someone to treat him like a good Lab should be treated - spoiled with lots of hugs and chew toys.

Please, even if you can't take him yourself, help get word out about him - post him on your facebook page, send an email, tweet him! He's a good boy who just wants someone to love.

14. Hi Mike - sorry, this handsome fella found his forever home
I guess I should have updated the post but figured it had slipped into obscurity as it's over a year old. Smutty (now Smitty) got hooked up with a rescue group I volunteer with and found a home shortly thereafter.

If you're in New England (and I assume you are since you're perusing the NH forum), check us out at http://nearr.com (North East All Retriever Rescue). We specialize in all retriever breeds and are about the only rescue around that accepts mixes as well (although at the moment we have only 3 purebred labs).

2. What a sweetie!
Have you also posted in the Pets group? I'm in NJ, but know a couple of people in NH and will be forwarding this to them.

Best of luck with finding a home for this adorable baby!

3. Thank you!
I was just coming in here with an update (see post below).

We are willing to get him to wherever his new home will be so feel free to email this all over so everyone can take a peak! If you have a Facebook acct, please consider posting it to your wall.

He is really pretty and pretty well-behaved (given his late start in obedience training after all. ;) ) He's a typical Lab - a velcro dog who just wants to be near you. I'd take him in a heartbeat but I already have my hands full with my own rescue dog (who needs a whole lot more work than this beautiful guy would need.)

5. I sent it to my 2 NH people
and they each sent it along to a bunch of other NH people!! I tend to not associate with people who don't love animals!! :) I'd take him myself, but I've already got 2 dogs & 5 cats in a tiny house!

I'm a Facebook moron, so can you give me some instructions on how to get this on there? All of my Facebook friends are in NJ or just over the border in Rockland County, NY.

6. The only way I would know how to get it on Facebook
is to right click on his pic, save it to your pc, then upload it with his story to your facebook wall. When you're on your profile, you can upload photos in your status message.

If you sent this on to NH folks, that's a great start! And very much appreciated. All my 'folk' are animal people too and I do have one friend seriously considering him but I just can't let it stop there - I know what it takes to get a dog adopted and we need the numbers on our side - the more people who see him, the more likely it is he'll go home with someone.

I really appreciate your help, and that of others who've passed his picture/story along. He's a good boy who deserves that forever home.

4. Looks like Smutty is still looking for his forever people
We've had a couple of nibbles of interest but nothing seems to be coming through for him. Next stop will be New England All Retriever Rescue where he'll probably be fetching $200 - $300. If you have any interest, please consider giving this boy the love and security he deserves.

Thanks.

8. Not much luck yet, actually
Too bad, we had a few people who said they wanted him and just never followed through when it came down to it. However, we hooked the temporary 'owner' up with a local rescue group so hopefully they'll have more contacts and visibility.

He's so pretty, I wish I could take him too. Thanks for the kick.

9. glad to K
he's a really beautiful dog =<[br />I hope he gets something stable and not a shelter life. That can be rather traumatizing for a dog (as well as hard on training him)

10. He's not going to a shelter
I can say that with certainty. The rescue group uses foster homes. So while he may not get his 'forever' home as fast as we'd like, he will not be going to a shelter. (I'd foster him if it came to that.)

11. Thats great to hear!
My in-laws run a kind of shelter in spain (brings the animals up to holland for 'distribution') and I would loved to have fostered a few of the dogs. sweet, beautiful things!

but we have a dog and he's a little dominant for a small/medium dog lol.

I lvoe him, and he's darling, but has self-esteem issues I think =\
