Spread the word: NH's government is not for sale, and its leaders must be held accountable. No more "corn roast" shakedowns, no more influence pedaling by wealthy corporate lobbyists, and no more allowing outrageous fund raising scandals to go unnoticed or unpunished. This coming Tuesday, NH citizens who care about clean and open government must stand up and be counted--with 64,000 pounds of corn!
Yesterday the Legislative Ethics Committee unanimously recommended that former speaker and Republican leader Gene Chandler be expelled from the NH House of Representatives. The bi-partisan committee's report is a damning condemnation of the problem of money in NH's politics and policy, focusing on more than $64,000 in contributions
from lobbyists and corporations--to Gene Chandler's PERSONAL finances.
The report concludes:
"Based on all of the circumstances, the Committee unanimously recommends that Representative Chandler be expelled from the House of Representatives for the remainder of the 2005-2006 term of office. To do otherwise would demean the ethical standards established by the Legislature for its membership... But, this violation of the ethics guidelines warrants a severe punishment, and he should not be accorded special treatment in its administration."
