wes clark won't run for President in 08. We saw how he did in the last election; he ran yknow.

However, this may have set him up for a VP run. That would be a good possibility.

4. emphasizing the military

didn't work out so well for us in 2004. I'd suggest emphasizing the time honored Democratic issues - health care, Social Security, education, housing, jobs - those are the areas we'll win on.

We won't win with a former lobbyist for defense contractors, conveniently turned Democrat in order to run for president.

7. Gotta disagree with you to a point...

I'll grant you that economic issues are our bread and butter; that's where our party still has its greatest appeal.

However, if we don't come up with a reasonably credible alternative message on matters of national defense, foreign policy and homeland security, we won't be able to move the discussion to the issues where we hold the strongest cards. If we simply cede the security issue to the other side, we won't be able to pass a threshhold credibility test with a lot of folks.

Now, as for Clark's lobbying, I'm not going to touch that issue...frankly, though, I think his long military service (and the difficult lifestyle that goes along with it) outweighs whatever missteps he may have made over the last couple of years.

I can agree with you to a point - but I knew the minute I heard Kerry say, "John Kerry reporting for duty" that he was dead in the water.

It would not be possible for me to ever support Clark, but I'm not going to elaborate on that. I would hate to see the NH forum turned into a Clark fest. Anyhow, FightinNewDem, you know very well that you're a whole lot more moderate than I am.
