Rasmussen poll-- NJ: Schundler 46% McGreevey 39%

This is really bad. I wouldn't care that much if Diane Allen won because I really don't like McGreevey but it would be really scary if Schundler won.

April 22, 2004--New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey trails Bret Schundler 46% to 39% in the latest Rasmussen Reports poll. Three years ago, in the 2001 election, McGreevey trounced Schundler by 14 percentage points. The New Jersey Governor's race will be held in November 2005.
Schundler is not the only Republican with hopes of replacing McGreevey. State Senator Diane Allen finds herself in a toss-up with the Governor at this time. The poll found Allen with 41% of the vote and the McGreevey with 40%. Other match-ups will be tested as the year unfolds.

These troubling numbers for McGreevey come despite the fact that John Kerry is leading George Bush by 12 percentage points in McGreevey's state.

McGreevey has been in trouble in NJ for some time. I even wonder if it is worth his being a candidate for re-election.

3. Congressman Robert Andrews might challenge him in the primary

They both ran in 1997 and McGreevey narrowly won. But, Andrews said on Philadelphia radio a few months ago that people had asked him to run and he hadn't said no.

I expect McGreevey will have a tough time based on his overall lack of appeal. At least he hasn't attracted the vile hatred that Florio did.

Anyway it is way to early to think about this. Let's worry about '04 first.

8. I don't know about that...

My parents are Whitman-type Republicans and curse McGreevey daily. Rather, McGreedy to quote my dad. He does have the vile hatred - approval ratings back nearly a year are hovering around 42 percent. It would take a Schundler nomination or some miracle for Jimmy to get re-elected. And that's speaking as someone who voted for him enthusiastically in '97 and '01!

NJ Dems might have a shot at keeping power if Andrews is the nominee vs. Schundler.

Schundler. You'd think that the right-winger would have a more difficult time of it. But I was sitting in stopped traffic on the Parkway on Friday and I see this bus on the shoulder w/ "Bret Schundler will get rid of tolls on the Parkway" emblazoned on the side of it.

It's tough to not consider voting for S. when you're steamed because you're not moving.

still gets 39% compared to Shundlers 46%, that's pretty good. At least he has a chance.

At an unbelievable low back in around February of this year. And they've come around.

I hope McGreevey can rebound similarly.

Even though Schundler polls well now, a further discussion of the issues would sink him, I think. He's just too far right for NJ.
