The New Jersey College Republican State Chairman has resigned following allegations that he sought to shake down gubernatorial candidate Doug Forrester for a contribution to his organization. Steven M. Damion, who had been accused of using his organization's funds for personal use by some of his fellow officers, said in an e-mail on Saturday that he was stepping down "due to slandering and false pretenses." Damion's resignation came hours after being harshly critcized by GOP State Chairman Tom Wilson, who, in an e-mail to Damion said: "Your approach is 100% out of line - not to mention quite possibly illegal.

are having similar troubles.

Not that it seems to have had much effect but there was a minor scandal here in South Dakota too before the election. Some young Republicans were charged with some improper registration of voters, and some others quit the organization saying that they couldn't be a part of what was going on.
