Codey Brings Public Advocate Back to the Garden State
Acting Governor Richard J. Codey recently signed the legislation that will bring the office of the Public Advocate back to New Jersey.

For twenty years, the Public Advocate served as an independent voice for the people, representing the interests of the average citizen against all others, including government itself. It was eliminated by former Governor Whitman in 1994.

With this legislation, the people of New Jersey again have the guarantee of an independent champion of their interests.

Acting Governor Richard J. Codey first proposed the return of the Public Advocate as a part of his State of the State Address earlier this year. It was one of the many reform initiatives created Codey in his efforts to restore public faith in New Jersey government.
