being certified in a garage in West New York or Union City? I am trying to assemble materials to write a letter about DRE machines to the local paper re their inherent lack of security.

I saw this post during the run-up to the 2004 elections I think.

1. Keep in mind...

it's not just about the individual counties and their respective choices...

but about which machines are actually certified by the AG

To date, only one type of machine, Sequoia, has been certified by the AG's office to be HAVA compliant


In Passaic County, the very progressive and passionate Democratic chair of the Board of Election Supervisors does not like Sequoia, but has told me her hands are quite tied by the fact that there is essentially a monopoly in Trenton based on the certification doled out by the AG's office.


This is why Corzine's pick to replace Harvey is so important. Please follow that issue closely.

Can you give me dates on when exactly the ones besides Sequoia were officially certified?

4. Gusciora, et al., v. Codey, et al. (New Jersey)

Case referred by EFF to the Rutgers Constitutional Litigation Clinic that challenges the use of paperless DREs in New Jersey based on the New Jersey Constitution and election laws. Sequoia shipped and then took back tousands of Sequoia Advantages from NY state. The question is what happened to these tousnads of machines?

As far as individual voting equipment getting certified-- that doesnt happen. One machine is put forth for a test by a panel of 3. If certified, countys can then buy it.
