Monmouth County Democratic: "the best field we've had"
Emphasizing unity, the Monmouth County Democratic organization on Saturday nominated candidates for county and state legislative offices — perhaps the party's best slate in years, according to longtime observers.

It includes incumbents (state Sen. Ellen Karcher and Assemblyman Michael Panter), those with high-level office experience (former state Sen. John D'Amico and former Assemblyman John Villapiano), other proven winners (Bradley Beach Mayor Stephen G. Schueler; Amod Choudhary, a Colts Neck Board of Education member; and Patricia Walsh, a Middletown Board of Education member) and those with professional background in related fields (Belmar Police Chief Jack W. Hill Jr., running for county sheriff).

Monmouth County Democrats, underdogs for decades beyond the municipal level, have been making inroads on the regional level in recent years. And the once virtually unbeatable county Republican organization continues infighting — such as with Freeholder Anna Little, a Republican, not getting the backing of her party.

"It's the best field we've had in as long as I can remember," said Belmar Mayor Kenneth Pringle, active in county Democratic politics for 20 years.
