NJDSC FILES OPRA REQUEST ON CHRISTIE'S TRAVEL AS GOVERNOR
The New Jersey Democratic State Committee wants to know if Chris Christie is still ripping off taxpayers for travel expenses as he did while George Bush's U.S. attorney for New Jersey. NJ State Democratic Committee Chairman Wisneski has filed an OPRA request to find out.

Chris Christie exceeded federal travel spending limits as U.S. Attorney, records show

"TRENTON -- The Republican candidate for New Jersey governor, who has campaigned on a platform of ethical integrity and cutting government waste, regularly spent beyond federal guidelines on business travel while U.S. attorney, records show.

The newly released travel records show that Chris Christie occasionally billed taxpayers more than $400 a night for stays in luxury hotels and exceeded the government's hotel allowance on 14 of 16 business trips he took in 2008.

"Generally, U.S. attorneys, assistant U.S. attorneys and all federal staff stay within the government rate," said Justice Department spokeswoman Melissa Schwartz. "The government rate is not a suggestion, it's a guideline."

NJDSC Files OPRA Request on Christie’s Travel As Governor
Request to make sure Christie isn’t continuing his “pattern of abuse”

"(Trenton) Following the release of a U.S. Inspector General report documenting a “pattern of abuse” when Chris Christie was U.S. Attorney, the New Jersey Democratic State Committee announced the filing of an OPRA Request to obtain documents on the Governor’s travel:

“The word hypocrisy comes to mind. These are the same types of abuses he takes pride in berating others for regularly,” said Wisniewski. “More disturbing than the excessive lodging of Christie, was the documented pattern of abuse, misleading statements, failure to comply with federal regulations and lack of justification for travel arrangements at all. Without these OPRA requests, we won’t know for sure that the Governor isn’t continuing his pattern of abuse.”

When asked about the travel, the Governor’s office avoided questions referring reporters to statements made during the campaign.

“Referring reporters to previous statements makes further examination essential because during the campaign, Christie said he would loosen state business travel policies giving officials more leeway for business travel -- with taxpayers footing the bill. If he’s leading by example as we have seen documented in this report, the taxpayers have every reason to be concerned.”

Chris Christie, hippocrite.
