I'm no fan of charter schools but Chris Christie definitely is. So you'd think the fool would have learned a lesson or two after losing $400 million in Race to the Top funding. You'd think. But you'd be thinking wrong.
This latest $14 million loss brings the total amount of funding Chris Christie has lost for New Jersey to $690 million in only his first ten months in office. This is absolutely ridiculous. Christie is being touted as presidential material, Howard Dean was on Joe Scarborough's show this morning praising Christie for lowering taxes (???), while this idiot and his administration can't even fill out an application for federal funding for charter schools that he wants!
Someone should tell Howard Dean that under Chris Christie taxes in New Jersey have gone UP, not down. The only people in New Jersey who got a tax break from Chris Christie ARE MILLIONAIRES.
The rest of us are facing higher taxes and an idiot in the governor's office who keeps throwing away millions of dollars.
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/11/nj_misses_out_on_14m_federal_a.htmlN.J. misses out on $14M federal aid to start up charter schools"TRENTON — Democratic lawmakers said Monday that New Jersey's missing out on a $14 million federal grant shows that education isn't a priority for Gov. Chris Christie's administration.
Federal grants to help launch new charter schools were announced in August, but it went virtually unnoticed in New Jersey when the state was not among the recipients.
When the Philadelphia Inquirer reported today about implications of not getting the money, it got the attention of lawmakers. The grant would have given each new charter school in the state $150,000.
Comments from the federal reviewers indicate the state didn't have an adequate plan for measuring the success of charters, among some other flaws.
Of 17 grant applications considered, New Jersey's and four others were denied.
