The police, firefighters, seniors and disabled who lost their only form of property tax relief, the entire public education system, children who lost their school meal programs, commuters who now pay a 50% fare hike to ride NJ Transit for decreased service, libraries, small business owners, all the current workers who lost ARC jobs and all those workers who will not have increased access to jobs in New York City far into the future, all New Jersey taxpayers for whom you personally have lost over $690 million through what can only be described as a combination of sheer ignorance, malice, malfeasance, and criminal recklessness, would all like to thank you, as well as anyone I failed to mention in my short off-the-top-of-my-head list.

Jersey City Police Layoffs Part Of Larger Cop Cuts Statewide
Concern growing about a rise in urban crime across New Jersey

"JERSEY CITY, N.J. (WPIX) —
A proposal to lay off ten percent of the police force in New Jersey's second largest city is part of a larger pattern of police layoffs in cities and towns across the Garden State. It has some residents concerned about a rise in urban crime across New Jersey.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy sent a layoff plan to the state government on Thursday that would hand pink slips to 82 of Jersey City's 800 police officers and to seven civilian Jersey City Police Department employees.

The plan also calls for the department's four inspectors to be demoted to the rank of captain, and for two captains, four lieutenants, and six sergeants to also be demoted in an effort to save Jersey City $4.6 million.

It's the latest in a series of New Jersey cities deciding that police have to be cut in order to meet their budgets.

On Tuesday of this week, Newark laid off 167 cops, or 15 percent of its officers. Hoboken laid off 18 officers earlier this year, and Camden is considering laying off at least 150 officers, or roughly one-third of its police force. This year also saw 60 cops in Atlantic City getting pink slips, and six officers in Cherry Hill being shown the door in order to save city money."
