1980's NJ bar and Band scene - were you there???
I grew up in NJ. I was 18 in 1978 and the bar and live band scene in NJ was hot. I spent most of my 20's (the 1980's) in a bar listening to a cover band. Anyone else been there - done that? Here are some of the bars I used to frequent and some of my favorite bar bands from the 1980's.

Bars in NJ:

The Colonels Garter (my FAVE)
The Playpen (or pigpen)
The Fountain Casino
The Main Event
Emmetts Inn
The Tiger's Tail

Bars on Staten Island:

The Factory - became Snoopys
The Rock Palace

Fave Bands:

Dreamer
Jetta Madge
The Rockids
The Good Rats
Baby Blue

I'm just reminiscing here and wondering if anyone who reads here was also in any of these old bars or knew any of the bands.

I miss the good old days! *sigh*

6. Rockids
So what ever happened to the Rockids. I remember a song that was written by Pepe Marchello of the Good Rats for you guys. I think it was called 'Rockids". Do you have any MP3s of your original material? Who were you in the band? I remember Candy Kiss, Summer Love, She's a Cartoon, any more?

10. Rockids
Hey I think I still have one of the Rockids 45's somewhere in my basement. I think one side had a song "She's A Cartoon". I am sort of fuzzy on where I got it but I seem to recall my mother brought it home from work. She was a waitress and I think she worked with a woman that was a friend there who's son was on the Rockids. I might be wrong though it was a long time ago.

4. I was 5 in 1978, so I missed it by a few years.
Even though they weren't from Jersey, The Hooters performed at my high school before they hit it "big".

25. Oh yes! looking back now..
Yeah, we worked at all those places. I remember we were off one night and went out to see Twisted Sister I think the FINAL EXAM.

I was playing Dee at a game of Table Top Asteroids between sets.

Anyone been to Zaffy's? Me, Sambora and the Woodbridge rockers used to go there and the Colonel's Garter all the time (locally)

Zack

7. Cover bands
I was there too! They were the "good old days!"
Many good times in the Garter. The beer bar and all the great
bartenders? Does anyone remember the band Trigger? How about
Close Encounters? One day disco, and the next day "New
Wave." The Touchables were my favorite! It sure is nice
to remember the fun, and very carefree times.

13. I was way too young to enjoy the bar scene, however my older sister
was not and she got so frustrated of having to ask me for her Good Rats tape that she gave me my own as a Christmas present.

I was a guitar player in the band back in 1981 for a few months.

I am the third one down to the right. I wish I still had hair like that.

I was great back in the ol' days.

39. NJ Club Days! Late 70's, Early 80's
Hi, just say your message... I was there! My favorite (and
still is) was Twisted Sister, Dreamer and The E. Walker Band.
I'm friends with the lead singer and just built him a web
site. It's www.raydahr.com. There are songs, and youtube
videos, etc. on his site. He does an acoustic gig here and
there. You should check it out...

My favorite clubs were the same as yours, but I have to add
Mother's, The Final Exam, Creations....

I am currently working on my own website about these glory
days... it is going to be www.clubdaze.com. I had started it,
and then built one for my friend, so I'll be picking up on
mine again soon.

Check out his though. The E. Walker Band was in EVERY one of
those clubs during those times so I'm sure you'll remember!

Take Care!

Deb
