No Congress for Chávez

IT is unclear what Albuquerque mayor Martin Chavez' political future will be, but one thing is clear: there will be no Martin Chavez for Congress in 2008. So there will be no Martin vs Martin campaign in the First Congressional District (Heinrich vs Chavez, respectively).

While speculation had run rampant that Martin Chavez would switch over his Senate campaign fundraising money (a reported $300,000) to a Congressional race, it looks like Chavez will not run for Congress. I was told when Chavez announced he was leaving the Senate race that he would not run for Congress. But when Chavez' campaign manager, Mark Fleisher, spoke to the ABQJournal for a Sunday article, it looked like the door was still open.
