Mail-in voting
Is this new? I was emailed and called today to see if I wanted a mail-in vote application. I have not voted in over 20 years, so I'm not up on all this. I will probably vote early at the county building anyway. It seems easy. No one is ever there, avoid the lines on election day, and so on.

1. I got a message about it.
From some republican group telling me that they had mailed me a mail in ballot and that I needed use it to vote for McCain because of the terrorists. :puke:

If you want to vote mail-in/absentee, I would call your county clerk and request one from them. That way you can be somewhat assured that it comes from a reliable source and would be counted as such.

2. Both the email and the phone call were from the Obama camp.
I don't trust the mail here. I work right by the county building and do a bit of business there regularly, so it will be easy to just shoot upstairs and vote. I guess. I was just wondering if mail-in is new. I know it's very successful in Oregon. Too much stuff gets lost in the mail here.

3. I wouldn't use anything sent by Republicans. I don't
trust that they're not trying to do more voter caging here in NM (again!) Slimy liars.

4. I got the form from an Obama volunteer today
From what she said you fill out the form and mail it in and then will get an absentee ballot in the mail. Fill that ballot out and take it to the post office, or on election day you can drop in into the box without having to wait in the long lines. I am going to call the county clerks office on monday and if what I was told it true then this is what I am going to do. I like the idea of having a paper record.

5. A Dem volunteer came by my house. I filled out the form,
but I haven't gotten my ballot yet. He said it would arrive about a month before the election. ?

6. I understand that early voting is probably the safest
way to assure that our ballots are actually counted. There are chain of custody issues with the US Postal Service. In Albuq, the early voting site on Lomas downtown is open already, and the others around Bernalillo County will be open starting 10/18.
