According to a press release from Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, the Rail Runner Express will have at least one more commuter to Santa Fe starting today — Denish herself.
The probable-future governor, assuming Gov. Bill Richardson is confirmed by the U.S. Senate for the secretary of commerce position, will ride to Santa Fe on the new rail service which opened to the public on Wednesday.
“Cost savings, environmental benefits, and safer transportation during winter weather make taking the Rail Runner a win-win. I am encouraging New Mexicans to make the commute on the Rail Runner and I am leading by example,” Denish said in a statement.
Politicians, media and a few regular citizens got to ride the Railrunner early. This included our own Trip Jennings, who was with Richardson, U.S. Sen.-elect Tom Udall, U.S. Rep.-elect Martin Heinrich and others who made the first official trip from Bernalillo to Santa Fe.
