Santa Fe Ladies Over (or near) 50! Red Hat Group Forming!

For those who are interested, here's their website http://www.redhatsociety.com
I will be starting (well, taking over, really) a chapter, the Red Hat O'Piñons and will be starting meetings very soon!

If you're interested, message Me here and I'll give you the email addy to write Me directly (I don't wanna give it to more harvester bots than already have it!)

Everyone welcome if ya got ovaries. Age does not matter, but you will be expected to wear Society regalia. That is, red hats and purple dresses for 50 and over, pink hats and lavender dresses for 49 and under.

Lady Sonelle AKA
Her Highness, Royal Payne
The Queen Has Spoken
YA-YA!

1. Sigh
I can't imagine any adult female human being actually doing this.

At 50 you need a real life, with real work.

Not dressup and giggling.

perhaps you're unaware of the poem:

"WARNING
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens . . ."

You can read the whole thing at http://members.tripod.com/~Labyrinth_3/page59.html

Things start to look a little different when you are over 50. For one thing, women suddenly find they become invisible. The poem and the movement are a reaction to that. They're also a way to indicate that yes, we've arrived and no, we don't give a damn what men or younger women think of us. We're done with the pinched lives and enforced morality that crippled us in girlhood and years of matronly motherhood.

Some folks have a real hard time dealing with that. Too bad.

3. Fully aware of it
and I think it's silly.

Imagine asking men to dress in stupid colors and act idiotic after 50!

Most of us are quite visible thanks...without the Ronald MacDonald look....and I'm 59.

Some people need to get a REAL life.

4. Sour sobriety aint for everybody
and I wonder why the nose to the grindstone, humorless type think it is.

By the way, men DO dress up in stupid costumes and act like idiots after 50. Perhaps you should do a field trip to the average college town bar to find them.

5. Millions die every day
from things we can easily solve.

Perhaps some adults addressing that instead of being silly might make for a better world.

If you can't grow up at 50, you never will.

6. Who cares?
If you're into it, follow up and if you're not, don't. Personally, I know very little about these groups but they are becoming ubiquitous, at least where I live and travel. Hell, if that many people are involved, maybe it's a least worth learning why. Ya know, to each his own.

8. Word Up, Darling!
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 08:16 PM by Lady Sonelle
I HAVE a life and I know how much longer I have.

Four years or under!

Now I can sit down and cry. I could strap something horrible to Myself and go hug a politician (I have a little list...) and make the news.

I might just yet.

Or I can decide to spend My final years having some fucking FUN!

Do you think this world, this administration gives a TIN SHIT about ANY of us?! Do you have ANY concept of just how ANGRY I am? Or an inkling of just how MUCH chance I have left?

**NOTHING**

I have NO savings and NO property and NO future and NO fallback position! When Social Security goes.... **I GO** **I DIE**

So for the next four GOD DAMNED years, I intend to turn My back on this stinking steaming SHIT PILE that was ONCE My beloved country and I am going to HAVE FUN!

Because we CANNOT get off this sinking ship and we CANNOT make the captain listen and we CANNOT change the course and we CANNOT call for help so GIVE ME A FUCKING DECK CHAIR... I'M MOVIN' THEM AROUND!!

And, if God is KIND to Me I'll find I have something TERMINAL and won't HAVE to stick around for this shit to grow maggots!

I lived through the sixties with the hope and the striving for something better. we were altruistic and we were trying for something beyond ourselves. They GOT to us and they killed us, one by one. Some weren't killed physically, but their minds went, their hearts, their souls... some died by their own hand and some by their own beliefs... and some, like Me, weren't killed... but were so stunted, so damaged, yet left to live in the world where NOBODY WANTED US...

And now the second wave of death begins. And I can sit here and cry and wail and moan and will have four years of misery... or I can get up and dance!

I'm gonna fucking DANCE because it's the LAST DANCE we're gonna have for a LONG TIME.

So FUCK it... fuck it ALL!

I'm NOT 25 and I'm NOT male and I'm NOT able-bodied and I'm NOT rich and I'm NOT in a good paying job and I'm NOT insured and.... you get the picture.

THERE IS NOTHING FUCKING LEFT!

So if I want to put on a purple dress and a red hat and dance like an idiot, allow Me that, because there is FUCK ALL ELSE.

Thank you.

Lady Sonelle

9. Yup, women over 50 are marginalized.
they dont even get the respect that elderly women get in traditional cultures.

11. On the other hand
I don't think red (hats) and purple (dresses) are 'stupid colors' and you seem sort of sour-puss cranky to suggest that as a fact. If the invitation didn't move you, just don't respond. How can you suppose YOU have all the answers for what others OUGHT to be doing, or not doing?
I don't live up north or I would find it a fun opportunity...and I appreciate the invitation.

12. I'd be interested in getting together with other Santa Fe DUers...
...of any age or gender who would like to establish a periodic get-together-and-drink-non-alcoholic-drinks-in-a-comfortable-and-CHEAP-place-and-yak-about-stuff society as long as there was no dress code.

hopefully,
Bright
