Judge Allows Taos Banner Saying 'Fire Rumsfeld'

TAOS, N.M -- A judge has ruled that the town of Taos must allow a group to hang a banner that
says "Fire Rumsfeld" as it announces a peace rally.

The town had sought to stop the Action Coalition of Taos from referring to U.S. Secretary of
Defense Donald Rumsfeld on the banner, which advertises a March 19 rally.

Rumsfeld has a vacation home in Taos.

The group went to court to seek a restraining order against the town.

is that the town even tried to fight it. I'd have figured the mayor and the council would've hung the banner themselves.

i was flipping through the radio stations this morning and caught part of a talk show on one of them (we have three, in a town of about 9K people!). i heard the speaker say that the banner said ACT now for peace/fire rumsfeld. then he said he thought that was a contradiction, that 'fire rumsfeld' was violent language on a banner advocating peace. horseshit, i thought, but i had no idea what he was talking about since DU is the first place i read about it just now. i quickly flipped the channel mumbling something about republicans.
