New Mexico Police Tried to Pull Over Governor's Speeding SUV
ALBUQUERQUE (AP) -- Famous for zipping around New Mexico's open roadways at high speeds, Gov. Bill Richardson was at it again this month as he tried to make his way to an event in Albuquerque.
An Albuquerque police officer in an unmarked cruiser spotted a sport utility vehicle speeding southbound on Interstate 25 the morning of June 2. It resulted in a two-minute chase involving three police cars and the police department's airplane.
''It was enough of a concern that it caught the eye of the officer and it was enough of a concern for the officer to initiate a traffic stop,'' police spokesman John Walsh said Monday.
In an audio tape from police dispatch, the officer is heard describing the vehicle and trying to signal it to pull over as a siren blared in the background.
