A Dem has just announced his candidacy for New Mexico 2nd Congressional di
Over at DailyKos, a new progressive, Al Kissling, is taking up the fight for GOP's Rep. Steve Pearse's seat. Take a look at the diary set up over there by Al's campaign manager

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/6/2/22659/29864

This is a race everyone thought that they would never be able to get a progressive entered in and GOP Rep. Pearse would sail along uncontested.

1. I heard about a month ago that Kissling wouldn't get very far....but
I have seen signs going up and I'm going to check out working for him. He has an interesting bio. There was an anti-Pearce letter in the paper a few days ago. Pearce is connected to oil drilling equipment, I think.

2. From dKos diary I got the impression he just got started
Perhaps he was just testing the waters for support and volunteers. It looks like a tough race, but perhaps now is the time for this campaign. I hear New Mexico is a state which is taking a beating from all the BushCo polluters.

4. Al is really a great candidate
I am so glad that Al is taking on Pearce, a typical Republican lap-dog. We are working hard here in Otero County to organize our precincts and get ALL of our Democratic candidates elected.

5. What is his stand on the War?
I checked out his web site, and didn't seem to find an answer to my question. Before I put a yard sign on my web page, I need to know this.

7. Steve Pierce is an environmental thug...
among other things. Let's hope that Al is a good strong liberal.

8. ...and that Al will defeat Pierce in November.
Edited on Wed Jun-21-06 12:49 PM by Cybergata
Also, that Patricia Madrid defeats the twig's lap dog, Heather Wilson.

It will be great day when New Mexico sends a Hispanic Woman leaning toward the progressive side to Congress.

9. A note posted on the Dem Party of Otero County from Al sounds good
I found this today, July 24 on the website of the Otero County Democratic Party:

A Message from Candidate for the US House of Congress, Al Kissling. Thanks to all of you and Congratulations. We had a goal of $20,000 for June and we received almost $30.000 from hundreds of supporters throughout the District and the Country. This bodes well for the future of this grassroots campaign. Tell your friends about the web site, www.kisslingforcongress.com, and urge them to stay informed. The campaign office is open &endash; 215 S. Campo, Las Cruces &endash; but I am often on the road. Call 525-9133 or check the web site for my schedule. We have big challenges: Stop the War Balance the Budget, & Clean up Congress. All things are possible if we continue to work together.

11. I am so glad to hear that
Welcome, Neighbor. I remember reading & admiring your posts before you moved to our land of enchantment. I live in Otero County, very conservative and I am so glad you'll be working for Al. Maybe we'll even get a chance to meet one of these days! If you are ever in the Alamogordo area, please let me know.

12. will do! and I got my driver's license and hand delivered my voter reg
to the county seat today and made sure to let the lady know I wanted to work the election. she told me to watch the paper and take one of the poll worker classes before the election.

what was interesting is I asked her what type voting machines they used and she got a kind of sour look on her face and said they were going to new ones "with paper" It was like she either had to fight for that or had gotten lots of grief about the new machines. She made a point of letting me know there were "paper ballots" and when I said "Oh, so you guys are getting new scanner style?" she said "Yes" with some relief it appeared.

I'll be sure to check my newspaper and get the training in before November!

13. Good press for Al Kissling
This was in the Roswell Daily Record and the Artesia News Paper last week!!

"2nd Congressional District challenger Albert Kisssling seems more focused. The retired minister has shiftled easily from the pulpit to the podium and pounded Steve Pearce on both the war and the economy. The Reverand is the most interesting contender in either race."

Quoted directly from washington post by T.R.Reid, world famous journalist
