NM & Electronic Voting Machines
Finally, several of us have 'connected' around the state and are working on 'voter-verified audit trail'...I can't say our county clerks or Election Bureau Director, Denise Lamb are being too interested or helpful.
I believe Bev Harris of BlackBoxVoting Org (and author) will be in NM around July 8. I am really hoping we can get together.
If you're interested in this issue (I'm still at an elementary level), please PM me and let's work together.

1. voter's cannot audit 'trails' ...
voter verified paper BALLOTS are the only option for us ...

They can still use touchscreens, but ONLY to create the ballot, which is then PRINTED, VERIFIED, and carried BY HAND to a ballot box .. where the voter inserts it into the box ...

Receipts arent good enough: only paper ballots will do ...

PAPER .. NOT Vapor ...

2. Kerry in Albuquerque
I wish I could post a new topic but I don't have enough posts yet, I guess! Just wanted to let everyone know that John Kerry is going to be speaking at the University of New Mexico this upcoming Tuesday (June 22)! Details are still sketchy, but I've heard it's at 10:00 AM. Not sure where on campus. If you know anything more, please let me know.

3. It was supposed to be at UNM Continuing Ed tomorrow morning,
but I just got this email:

"We are sorry to announce that Senator John Kerry's event for tomorrow June 22nd has been postponed until further notice.

"Senator Kerry is returning to support a Senate amendment put forth by Sen. Tom Daschle to provide mandatory funding for veteran's healthcare.

"'John Kerry fought with other veterans in Vietnam, and on Tuesday he will be fighting for them again in the U.S. Senate,' said Moses Mercado, Kerry's New Mexico State Director. 'I am certain that the thousands of New Mexicans who were eagerly awaiting John Kerry will understand that he needs to continue his fight to ensure that veterans get the health care they deserve.'"

YESSSSS!!! Way to go, Senators!

Sadly but predictably, Tom Joles just commented that the vote was predicted to be "close."

4. Yes, I saw it on the news the night before
I was disappointed that he wouldn't be here, but it was completely understandable. He had to go to Washington to fight the good fight and take care of his responsibilities as Senator. Hope he comes back soon though, I'll be there!
