Intro #189 Is important for all senior citizens and anyone who would like to keep a pet in an apartment.
Intro #189 will allow anyone who’s previously had a pet in an apartment, condo or co-op the right to continue to do so when a beloved pet passes away. (under present law, your landlord can change that policy at anytime).
-This bill will help save dog’s and cat's lives as it will not allow landlords to change the pet ownership rules on tenants, who were previously allowed pets. More dogs and cats will be adopted! -This bill will help the elderly people who might like to have companionship. -This bill will help all of us to have a more "Humane New York"!
This bill has been floating around for a few years. It was originally #380 and was assigned a new number in 2003. There have been hearings, but the council members have not set a date to vote on it.
