GOV. PATAKI'S wife, Libby, has abruptly dropped apparent plans to pocket profits from her just-published children's book, saying through a spokesman that she'll now donate the money to charity.
The announcement came just hours after Pataki's spokesman, David Catalfamo, was told that The Post had learned that Mrs. Pataki — insisting she and her husband "really need" the money — was personally soliciting sales of the book, "Madison in New York," from New York City business leaders.
A source close to the situation told The Post that Mrs. Pataki called a wealthy potential customer several days ago to urge the purchase of more than 100 of the $16.95 books because "George and I really need the money." http://www.nypost.com/php/pfriendly/pfriendly.php?url=/news/regionalnews/21907.htmShe 'needs the money' but made around $340K last year?! Kind of sounds like influence peddling.
Finding this story so aggressively covered in the right-wing NY Post throws a whole other mystery into it. Is there discord within the Right?
