Very soon now, New York State will make choices about the new voting systems to replace our current mechanical lever machines. It is vital that for such an important decision, the state weigh the pros and cons of all voting systems that meet the HAVA requirements. We should not assume that electronic touchscreen voting machines are the only possible solution. They are not, there is a better one - paper ballots.

A reliable, auditable, cost effective alternative to electronic touch screen voting machines is a system comprised of hand marked paper ballots and precinct-based optical scan system, augmented by ballot marking devices to provide accessibility for the disabled.
