WNY: The 26th district, Buffalo, and the Republican Self-Destruct.
Good news on the prospects for the NY 26th Congrssional District in 2006. The big players are finally waking up to the fact that Reynolds is vulnerable, and they're taking the fight to him. Meanwhile, near-miraculous challanger Jack Davis is talking to the House Dem leadership.

In other news... One of my greatest pleasures in life is watching Republicans eating their own kind. Hence, despite the disasterous consequences for the city of Buffalo, I can't help but derive some satisfaction from the way the Republicans are slaughtering each other over the budget crisis.

For those not familiar with the area, I'll give you the short background. Erie County Executive Joel Giambra, Republican, who's big on corruption and cronyism, decides to pull a Bush and slashes property taxes in Erie County. Then, when the Feds cut aid to the states, the states cut aid to the counties. And Giambra found out that running a huge Repub red-ink budget defecit works a lot better when you can suckle at the teat of the federal government. Now he's stuck in a down and dirty fight versus Comptroller Nancy Naples, Republican, who doesn't want to be his scapegoat. And, to make it all the more fun, Giambra is demanding the resignation of State Senator Dale Volker, Republican--as well as the Assembly Majority Leader, a local Dem--over not getting state aid to fix Giambra's fuckup. Volker, as well as the Majority Leader, are telling Giambra to get a grip on reality.

Ahh, the sound of Republicans destroying themselves.

1. Don't take this the wrong way, but who'd have thought
Buffalo politics could be so interesting? Giambra sounds like a typical rethug--blame the bad on someone else, wait to be rescued by someone else. I think we'll be seeing more rethugs eat their own as economic reality hits...

2. Motor vehicle bureau closings in Erie County
One MVB for all of Erie County? Unbelievable! The spill-over from Erie County MVB to Chautauqua County MVB has placed an extra burden on our tax payers.

Now I hear that Giambra will maintain two Erie county golf courses and the public parks will remain closed.

3. Buffalo News
Tell The Buffalo News to quit bashing and blaming Unions for Erie County's the State's budget messes. Corporate Socialism is what is causing the messes. Cutting corporate taxes and giving subsidies to corporations is why the budgets are short and the individual's taxes, fees, fines, tolls, and surcharges keep going up. Lets stop the neo-corporatism that has swept across our state.
