This is not about the fundies' attitude toward gays, but it is about another one of their fanatical pet hates. Although it goes back to '84, things have gotten worse than better. The New York Natural History Museum was planning an exhibition of Man's ancestors, going up to Neanderthal man. Eric Delson, in charge of collecting the exhibits, had a problem with foreign museums: "It cannot have been easy for them to justify the risks of placing them on prolonged exhibit in the homeland of creationism...the exhibition ultimately proved to be too 'controversial' to attract either Federal of private funding. Of course we ultimately involved a lot of the New York experience fained from bank teller cages, armored car windows, and
Transit Authority token booths. The Police Department supplied specialists on criminal and lunatic violence, and Chemical Bank offered the expertise of its security chief. As it turned out, of the entire supply of active maniacs in the Tri-State area, not one chose in the event to test the system that resulted, possibly because of the enthusiasm and vigilance of the Museum guards assigned to the visit. Our view was that the primary purpose of the exhibition
was not, iny political sese, to make a statement about human evolution, as if to dignify the challenge of "creation science."

It's definetly not the jesus who I know and love. The jesus that cares about us being stewards of the earth, and about loving our neighbor. Of course than again my god doesn't care about a person's orientation, political affilation, or stance on reproductive issues.
To those of you hurt by this nut I want to say I truly emphasis. I have all kind of insults handed my way because I want stem cell research. My heart bleeds and my skin bristles when I hear a neo con preach the bible.
To GBLT, and anyone in general who was hurt by the people like fred ilk, I just want to say that am truly sorry and I cant stand it when they use my god's name to insult anyone. Please let me know what I can do to help. Phelps is truly a sick and diseased man he needs to be shut down.

4. We found that if you stand next to him with a rainbow

flag it tends to make them disperse. Worked for us anyway. He's really paranoid about being photographed with that flag. I also have a picture someone sent me with two guys standing on either side of him--on his right with a T-shirt reading "he's" and on his left a guy with a t-shirt reading "gay," so that when you see the picture you see "he's gay" with Phelps in the middle. Doubt it was very effective though. I can't wait for his funeral--I plan to picket with a sign that says "Phred Phelps burns in hell."

upon learning that they were scheduled to be protested by this sad creature and his hateful "congregation" went to work taking pledges from glbt supporter. Get pledges for $5 for every minute Phelps protest continues.......it's gotta drive the guy bonkers. It has worked very well for some folks. Just sayin'

Our small Christian congregation has participated for a number of years in the local GayPride Fest. We have some trouble getting folks to trust us not to try to "fix" them. We just mix them into the family and go from there. Big hearts and terrific potlucks.

Phelps and his bullhorn called us out and our pastor, by name, claiming that we/she are leading people straight to hell. Nasty, nasty man.
