I'm running for town council in the town of Patterson. I don't blame you if you've never heard of it. We're a mixed semirural/NYC bedroom community of about 11,000 in northern Putnam county. A lot of it is gun country.
We haven't had a Democrat on the town board in almost 10 years. It's been an entrenched GOP oldboy network for at least that long. They have long since ceased even paying attention to the residents except for a select few contractors that they regularly give work to.
Starting last year, a few progressives (myself included) rebuilt the town Democratic committee from the ground up with the express purpose of challenging these guys. I'm running with another committed progressive Dem for one of the 2 open seats on the board.
OK, here's the pitch: I'm running a fundraiser this weekend at the Putnam Lake VFW. All DU locals are welcome to attend. PM me for details if you're interested. If you can't come and want to help out a fellow DUer who's trying to make a difference, any donation will help (I'm not proud). Again, PM me for details--the campaign committee is handling the $$. Donations will be used for campaign materials and to finance the fundraisers. Anything leftover (ha!) will go to the Patterson/Putnam Lake Democratic Club.
And if you can't donate...wish me luck! I'd be interested to hear from other DUers running for office, to share experiences and ideas.
Thanks for listening, folks.
