Eric Massa is taking on Republican Kuhl in the 29th District. Eric is a veteran of the US navy who served off of Beruit, as executive officer on a destroyer supporting the Gulf War, and as aide to General Clark in the Southern Command, when Clark was Supreme Allied Commander of NATO, and as his congressional laison in Washington. Surviving a bout with cancer (Clark cut red tape to fly him back to the US for treatment), he spent his last period with the military working with cancer patients.
After retirement, he accepted a position as Republican staff assistant to the House Armed Services Committee. He did not endear himself to his Republican bosses by writing dissenting opinions on Iraq and veteran's affairs. It came to a head when Wes Clark appeared at an event in DC and Eric went to shake his former commander and friend's hand outside of the event. He was called on the carpet and given an ultimatim to denounce his friendship with Clark or be fired. Press interest made them back off the firing, but fed up with both the vindictiveness of the Republicans and the hijacking of the party by the neocons, Eric resigned and became an aide to Clark in his campaign for president.
Eric is a fighter, no doubt. And he is well aware of the power of the blog. Recently he had live blogging on dKos in a wide ranging discussion in which he frankly, honestly, and with no spin answered the rapid fire questions of the kossacks. He is in touch with Paul Hacket, also endorced by Clark, and is cut from the same cloth and running in a red district much like Hackett's. He is worthy of support. Already he is being attacked from the left and right with the meme of a twelfth hour Democrat in it for personal gain or revenge, and attacked by trolls from redstate.org who challenge his credibility.
He has a blog and a forum. Visit his very striking site and check out his blog and comment if you like. His forum just began, but anyone can start a thread or comment on one.
