Hulaween
OK, this isn't political, but then neither is a "sweet smell". I attended Hulaween last night, which is an annual event run by Bette Midler's organization, the New York Restoration Project. For ten years, they have been cleaning up neglected city parks, and creating both places for people to enjoy and community gardens. Of course, Bette is totally a Liberal (she's performed at benefits for Kerry and Gore...was with John Kerry the night before the election), and never wastes an opportunity to razz the adminstration, although she was someone more restrained than usual last night. When she introduced Martin Short, who was in his Jiminy Glick drag, she said that Martin couldn't attend because he had been called in to replace Scooter Libby! Phil Donahue was there, dressed as a cowboy...he is the one person I wanted to talk to (about his great slapdown of O'Reilly), but that did NOT happen. Also there: Sting and Trudy, Elton John, Yoko, Martha, McEnroe, Tony Danza, Mariah...and Miss Tennage America, Miss USA, and Miss Universe were sitting at my table (I thought they were costumes at first).
On her last tour, Bette ripped into Limbaugh..."he's not just a moron, he's an OXYmoron". And he returned the favor after she ripped into Bush at one of the New Orleans benefits she performed at last month.
