Saratoga Springs
now has a dem mayor! Val Keehn won the seat from Lenz. He stole it last time by sending repuke goons to Skidmore and telling the students that if they voted they would be arrested.

1. Way to go!
I once got busted by a cop in SS, on the tree-lined road behind the Gideon Putnam hotel while we were speeding down the road, drunk, and I was taking off my shirt.

The cop let us go. We went back to his place - 104 Caroline Street - and partied on. (Isn't it amazing what kinds of stuff the brain retains after so many years?)

Is the Tin and Lint Company still in business?

One of my buddies, the cartoonist, John McPherson lives there. I know how he voted.

Well done!

7. I'm in Halfmoon
we didn't even have a dem on the ballot!

I met Val at a DFA meeting and she's a real nice lady. Glad she won tonight.

Have you met Kirsten Guilibrand yet? She's going to be running against Sweeney. Like her alot and I think she's got a chance of taking him out.

10. Gillibrand Benefits upcoming.
There are some upcoming houseparties and benefits being held for Kristin Gillibrand, the Dem challenging Sweeney. On the 3rd there's one in slingerlands, and my understanding is that there's one in Saratoga Springs Saturday. Things are off to a good start.

14. Thanks for the information.
Anything related to Gillibrand's candidacy, especially meet-ups, should be posted, to ensure greater participation. She hasn't received much publicity yet, and we need to support her. It's rare that we have a serious candidate challenging Sweeney.:-)

11. went to a house party for Kirsten today
I like her. Lots. She is smart and capable and ole "kick ass" Sweeney will be ass kicked Sweeney next fall. If we work hard. Spread the word!

15. I only learned that she was running because I took a telephone political
survey almost a year ago. The poor guy who called was so thrilled to find someone who was interested and willing to answer his questions without hanging up, that he gave me additional information and even spelled her name for me. This doesn't speak well for area voters, though most are no doubt Republicans. We need to really spread the word on this and support her, since it's rare that we have a serious candidate to take on Sweeney.:-)

(recordings). Maybe the tide is turning somewhat. :hi:

18. To be honest, I don't think anyone has much of a chance against Sweeney.
There was an article in The Post Star which said that he probably has the job for life, if he wants it. But we can only hope. Doris Kelly, his challenger in the last election, wasn't the strongest candidate, but she won the primary because she had Dennis Kucinich's phone list, so more people had heard of her. I would have preferred John Coleman, a Dean supporter, who I thought stood a better chance, but he lost to Doris Kelly in the primary. It was just amazing that we even had a Democratic primary, here in the Republican North Country. I have better hopes for Kirsten Gillibrand, since she's getting an early start and the tide seems to be turning, since people are finally getting the message about Bush*.

Are you back here, for good? Maybe we can organize a mini DU meet-up sometime!:D

20. Saratoga? That's my hometown and I'm there frequently, though usually with
my dogs, LOL! But I'd also love a meet-up. I've met three local DUers, so far, and have planned to meet a fourth, but we haven't managed it, yet. I liked them all a great deal. It's really wonderful to meet kindred spirits, especially up here. I just wish that it wasn't winter.:-(

13. I know. I talked to my cousin last week and she told me that Dems won big
in Saratoga, my hometown. I asked her what was wrong with that, told her that she should be celebrating, LOL!

And I remember that debacle involving Skidmore. Those people will stoop to anything...:grr:
