With a wave of victories across Long Island, Democrats last night claimed control of the Nassau district attorney's office, the Suffolk Legislature and Brookhaven Town Hall.
Kathleen Rice, a former federal prosecutor, claimed victory over Nassau District Attorney Denis Dillon, ushering him out after 30 years in office.
Democrat Rice, 40, a Garden City native who had worked as a prosecutor in Brooklyn and Philadelphia, attacked Republican Dillon saying his anti-abortion views interfered with his job performance, and accusing him of plea-bargaining too many felony charges to misdemeanors.
"I am incredibly proud of the campaign we ran. From the very beginning I had a very positive message of hope asking people to vote for me because I am a modern prosecutor qualified to deal with the problems we're facing in Nassau County."
