Spitzer and Swiftboating: Will Wall Street attack him?

One thing that has me worried is the potential Republican spin and attack against Spitzer that will come next year when he runs. Although Weld and Golisano are hardly the best candidates, they could do well if they get help from one entity: Wall Street. I can see groups like the Club of Growth dumping millions into the race to prevent a Governor Spitzer. They are already trying that right now with Tom Suozzi. A Home Depot executive who was buddies with Dick Grasso (the former NYSE Chairman that resigned in disgrace after Spitzer went after him for his sweethart bonus package) is already trying to convince Suozzi to run in the primary.

1. I really don't think so

There are many that support what he has done. The bad apples make it harder for those who want to follow the rules to compete and it becomes a race downwards. I also think the people are behind him and he would be vociferous in slamming back anyone who tried to 'Swiftboat' him. The NYGOP is also in total disarray. I sure hope I am right on this but one never knows.

2. And then if we win they have to live with him as an enemy?

I don't think so. I'm not that worried about Wall Street. The smart money knows it is likely Spitzer will win.

Tom Suozzi is a really good guy but this is a stupid move. He's a young rising star and he loses a lot if he gets whipped by Spitzer.

Spitzer raised $5m the other night at the Sheraton. And he gave a terrific speech, part Eliot Ness, part Tom Dewey, with a bit of Bobby Kennedy thrown in. He could become a great Governor.
