Suozzi says will accept GOP support
BY ERROL A. COCKFIELD JR.
ALBANY BUREAU CHIEF

January 13, 2006, 9:01 PM EST

As his exploration of a run for governor gained more attention Friday, Democratic Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi said he would accept cross-endorsements from other parties, including Republicans.

When a reporter asked during an interview if he would embrace such endorsements, Suozzi said he is seeking the Democratic nod first, but he would not turn down the support of other parties.

"Who would?" he said. "I have always enjoyed the support of Republicans, Democrats and Independents. I would not have won here in Nassau County without 100,000 Republican voters."

Late Wednesday, Suozzi filed papers with the state Board of Elections to create a political action committee -- "Friends of Tom Suozzi" -- as he pursues a primary challenge to state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer.

1. cross endorsement
he is talking about cross endorsements. he adamently says he will not leave the democratic party.

i think suozzi would make a great governor. he really turned nassau county around.

more importantly two democrats are rebelling in nassau county legislature, trying to overthrow judy jacobs as presiding officer and make roger corbin in her place. him and altman will be cooperating with the GOP to do this to gain personal power, will give the GOP greater positions on committees, despite the fact they are in the minority.

4. he will not
run as a republican. but if republicans want to endorse him he will accept it. he has stated clearly that he is a democrat and will NOT run as a republican (unless the happen to cross endorse him) he is a solid democrat thru and thru. brought nassau county back from fiscal ruin and years of mismanagement under republican leadership.

5. I won't vote for him
Suffolk County resident. I don't vote for Republican LITES. Especially those who court the right to life people or try to run on their ethnicity, of which I am the same as him.

Spitzer for ME.

7. accepting $$ from major right-wingers...
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 09:58 AM by ithacan
Sorry, anyone who accepts big bucks from the kind of folks Suozzi has -- including notoriously right wing and strong Bush backer Home Depot owner -- is GOP lite no matter what his positions on the issues are.

If this guy were truly the "reformer" he claims to be -- and that the MSM in NY is pushing -- then there's no way he'd accept those $$.

I'm not thrilled with Spitzer's positions on a number of issues, but there's no WAY dems should support Suozzi.

8. if you go by
if you go by who gets money from whom, then you would probably not support any major candidate ever.

like this one

The political action committee controlled by Indian Point owner Entergy Nuclear Northeast has so far given $5,500 to Democrat Spitzer’s campaign for governor

http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060208/NEWS01/60208001/1006/NEWS

now i think all campaigns should be publically financed and that you cannot use your own personal funds in it. (to prevent bloomberg situations from occuring. basically buying the office)

but until that day, politicians will take money from whomever will give it to them

Suozzi has a proven track record of getting fiscal spending under control and end corruption in government. he isnt beholded to the party leadership. Spitzer is however. with him in the governors chair it will be business as usual.

my vote, and i hope many others is going to suozzi
