Suozzi's announcement for governor Saturday 2/25/06 at 12:30
Suozzi will be announcing his run for governor this Saturday. Here's the postcard I received.

Please join Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi and his family on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 12:30PM on the corner of Second Street & St. Rocco's Place in Glen Cove for an important announcement. If you have any questions call 516-741-5315 or visit: www.tomsuozzi.com

1. Why should I vote for him over Spitzer? I'd like to see more about
his stance on issues compared to Spitzer's.

He sounds interesting and comes across as having charm and eye appeal which like it or not still tend to make one person more electable then another unless thier stances on the issues are vastly different.

This race might actually be worth changing my party from "none" to Dem for. B-)

2. suozzi
had done what was thought impossible. he defeated the republicans in a county in which republicans out number democrats 3 to 2 (not only won but won easily). then he won reelection in a landslide.

he presented budgets which avoided the gimmickry that the previous republican administration had used. cost was higher taxes, but it was a necessary step along with budget cuts to balance the budget.

he would be a great governor for the state of NY

3. Care to explain his ties to anti-Spitzer Wall Street donors?

Why is Suozzi taking money from Kenneth Langone, who has been investigated by Spitzer and has a gurdge against him? I will NOT vote for Suozzi in the primary as a result, and if he gets nominated, I may just skip voting for him and move on to Hillary and who ever is running against Sue Kelly in the NY-19, unless he runs against a true right-winger like John Faso. A Suozzi vs. Weld race won't be much different ideologically-speaking (they're both moderate opportunists running on ego), and I'm sure that Suozzi can still get elected without my one vote in that situation.

4. Don't worry
Suozzi has no chance of winning. I like the guy but you correctly point out his nefarious financial ties to Langone and anti-Spitzer Repukes. It's still the Democratic Party.

Rural Dems supported Spitzer overwhelmingly in an Ithaca straw poll taken yesterday.

Suozzi is making a big political mistake.

5. I honestly
expect him to turn and run as a rethug. They have been courting him and have no real viable candidate of their own, considering his ties to big business it wouldn't surprise me at all.

6. That would be a sad day

And I don't think it will happen. The law firm his father founded is a solidly Dem firm. He started the Dem Club in law school. He'd have a lot to answer for and he doesn't have Bloomberg money.

But I don't know why he's palling around wiht the likes of Ken Langone.

8. Suozzi will take support from anyone.
He loves to brag about Republicans for Suozzi. Denenberg likes that too.

7. Then you don't understand Suozzi.
He is fiercely liberal and he's great at not showing it. He gave one of the best liberal speeches I have ever seen in person at an event last September. Suozzi is a smart, impressive guy. So is Spitzer. Never underestimate him.

9. His Career is Over

He was really making a name for himself, and then he did this. He could have bided his time and run for statewide office later.

10. Over?
Ha! Say he does this and loses... He'll be the #1 Dem for a statewide seat. How does Senator Suozzi sound? Not too bad. I am from Nassau County and I am telling you. Don't underestimate him. He is very charismatic, has a proven track record and has the liberal creds.
