Nassau Legis. David Denenberg kicked off his run for Congress yesterday in the hometown of his opponent, attacking Rep. Peter King and President George W. Bush with equal measure -- hammering deficit spending, windfall oil profits, and high gas prices.
Denenberg (D-Merrick) delivered the mostly-extemporaneous speech on the grounds of Tackapausha Museum in Seaford to about 200 supporters.
"Before he goes to sleep every night, Peter King thanks God that George Bush is president," Denenberg said, referring to a sentence King wrote in a recent letter. "Ask him if he thanks God when he fills up his gas tank."
In an interview, King, a Republican, said his letter -- sent to a Democratic constituent who had criticized the congressman's support of Bush -- merely quoted former Democratic New York City Mayor Ed Koch's words to the same effect. In 2003, King attributed the same statement to Koch during an episode of the MSNBC talk show "Scarborough Country."

BTW, notice the end of the article where King runs from Bush.
