Picnic in Central Park
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 01:05 PM by ThomCat
Is anybody interested in having a DU picnic in Central Park?

Has anyone ever done this and know what the bureaucratic requirements are?

If there's interest I'll organize it.

Q: Where is a nice place to have a picnic in Central Park?
A: Several areas in Central Park are suitable for picnics. The Great Hill at West 106th Street near CPW, the East Meadow near Fifth Avenue between 97th and 101st Streets, the Ross Pinetum on the west side near 86th Street, and Cherry Hill and Mineral Springs near 72nd Street on the west side are all popular picnic spots.

9. It looks like we have enough interest.
We have at least four people interested, and I'm sure more people will join us. That's enough to start putting together a picnic.
:)

I have been told that Sundays are better than Saturdays for availability. That sounds reasonable so I'm shooting for a Sunday.

I'm looking at the end of July. This weekend is Pride weekend. Next is 4th of July. Let's have a week or two off and then get together. That would be either the 23rd or 30th of July.

Please let me know if you have a preference for the date.

If you know already that you will be there and want to bring something, let me know what you want to bring. I'll start keeping a list of who's bringing what.

There will be plenty of vegan/vegetarian food. I will work with anyone who had dietary restrictions. This will be as all enclusive as anyone needs it to be.
:)

You're all awesome! :grouphug:

10. I'm flexible on the date
Sunday is fine for me. I can easily bring my shopping cart and pick up supplies like ice and a couple of gallons of iced tea.

11. I'm in!!
I've thrown picnics in the park before and you don't need any special permits. You just have to remember that you can't barbecue anything and that alcohol and glass containers are technically illegal. But I've found that if you don't cause any trouble and are careful to not litter the cops don't hassle you.

17. Saturday, July 24th
So far, you're the first to mention bringing kids. But I'll work with you to make it kid friendly.

I want this to be open to DUers with kids who might not otherwise make it to a DU meetup. :hi:
