Something worthy for NYC DUers to get involved in...
defeating Vito Fossella this November.

Fossella is the only republican congressman from NYC. His District geography is all of Staten Island, plus the area of Brooklyn nearest the Brooklyn end of the Verazzano Narrows Bridge (Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and part of Bensonhurst).

It's also where I live, and I'm tired of it being represented by crooked Republicans. Fossella basically inherited it from Susan Molinari, who inherited it from her father.

Two years ago, the Democrat challenger got closer than anyone is recent memory to upsetting the Rethug incumbent, and this year the challenger, Steve Harrison, is mounting a smart, energetic campaign.

Fossella, besides having to try to disassociate himself from * and his failed pResidency, and defending his own anemic record, is being pummeled almost daily with revelations of potentially illegal use of campaign funds and potentially illegal advertising. (I'll try to post some links to the Daily News stories.)

Anyhow, I can't think of a better way for NYC DUers to work for a progressive cause this year. Certainly, no local congressional race is more important, and it's one that, if we won, would stun the rethugs in Washington.
