Always take jury duty seriously. We need conscientious progressives on juries. Peoples' lives hang in the balance - literally - on the decisions a jury makes. Fairness toward all sides (accused and victim alike), the ability to put yourself in their shoes and determine whether justice will be done with your verdict, and courage to make the right decision are all important. I've been through jury duty and saw too many people who showed up just wanting to get out of jury duty - showing up in ratty clothes, making excuses to the judge and asking to be dismissed (too busy, etc), and making opinionated or off the wall statements during voir dire (jury selection) - and sure enough they got out of jury duty. That's probably for the best, since people who want out of jury duty that badly probably cannot be trusted to carefully consider the facts and bring a just verdict either. Be fair, not a rubber stamp. Sorry if this sounds preachy but jury duty is something every thinking liberal should take seriously.

edit: I see "tomorrow" was 3 days ago, but this is good advice in general...

2. It's over!
I was picked for a case, and talked a bit too much during selection, so I got kicked out. It sounded like an interesting case, too. But a neighborhood acquaintance is on that case, so hopefully I will get to hear about it. Involved payment for a veterinarian after the patient, a horse trained for dressage, had to be put to death. I think I must have sounded too sympathetic to vets.
