Sweeney official admits 'error'
Spokeswoman retracts charge that Gillibrand "bought her way into" politics with donations

U.S. Rep. John Sweeney's spokeswoman conceded Wednesday she erred in describing how much money Kirsten Gillibrand has donated to political candidates.

In fact, Sweeney -- through his campaign committee -- has given hundreds of thousands of dollars -- not his opponent as Sweeney's campaign had claimed.

Responding to the news that Sen. Barack Obama, an Illinois Democrat, would appear at a fundraiser for Gillibrand, Maureen O'Brien told the Times Union Tuesday: "Kirsten Gillibrand has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democratic candidates across the country. She's bought her way into the system, and they are clearly paying her back."

Gillibrand spokeswoman Allison Price said Donovan lied; Donovan said it was a mistake.

1. I saw a couple of Sweeney ads on TV tonight, and he sure sounded desperate

to me. He's still going with his "war profiteer" attack ads, which Gillibrand has soundly refuted, while the ones I saw from her were new, even newer than the "Have you no sense of decency?" ads, which refuted Sweeney's charges and were brilliant, IMO.:-)

2. NY 20th

I live in this district and it's almost impossible to get a Gillibrand sign. I have contacted everyone I can THINK of and cannot find one. She doesnt have any merchandise on her site, and it really is riling me because all my neighbors have sweeney signs up. Finding a Gillibrand sign is rarer than hen's teeth.

Anyone seen recent polls? Last one I saw had her down by 13 points....

3. I managed to get the last one at my county's headquarters

I was told that they are were more popular than the Clinton, Cuomo and Spitzer signs because a) people know this is a real battleground race and b) they keep getting stolen and folks come in for replacements. They are looking for volunteers. I was asked to volunteer for the campaign but couldn't do it because I'm dealing with a family medical problem but I may reconsider.
