Post-Star: Sweeney laying groundwork to attempt comeback
By MAURY THOMPSON
Wednesday, February 14, 2007

Former U.S. Rep. John Sweeney is laying the groundwork to attempt a political comeback, possibly in a 2008 challenge to the woman who defeated him in November, said Warren County Republican Chairman Michael Grasso.

"There's a few scenarios that could play out," Grasso said. "Let's just say none of those options would be for lower office (than the House of Representatives)."

-snip-

About a week before the election, Sweeney and his wife, Gayle, acknowledged the State Police came to their home on Dec. 2, 2005, to answer a complaint, but the Sweeneys claimed a police report leaked to newspapers was fabricated.

New information will be coming forth soon that will cast the State Police visit to the Sweeney home in a different light, said Grasso, who said he had lunch with Sweeney last week.

Alright, so I was manning phones on election day last year and the police visit story never came up. Y'know what folks wanted to talk about? Health care and Republican corruption and the occupation of Iraq. I hope Sweeney's the candidate again cuz that'll be an easy win for Gillibrand.

2. I swear he would've lost even without the police story
He did nothing but lie about his opponent and people were fed up with his corruption. He continues to not get it!

:hi:

3. Didn't I hear that
the Saratoga County Republican Committee rejected him as their canidate? Something is clicking in the back of my mind that I heard that somewhere. They don't want to run him against Gillibrand again.

4. Interesting PostStar online
poll

http://www.poststar.com/articles/2007/02/22/news/columns/politics/doc45dd393624dce138218243.txt

Of 972 respondents, 570, or 59 percent, selected "no way, no how" as an answer to whether Sweeney should run in 2008.

Another 149, or 15 percent, selected "no," while "yes" was the answer selected by 74 people, or 8 percent.

179 people, or 18 percent, selected "absolutely."

So let them nominate him to run again, he will be a two time loser after that. Sweeney might be the easiest to beat, we already got the low down, he has a voting record (or lack thereof).

5. no scenario would be for a lower office?
what's he gonna do, try to unseat Hilary or Chuck in the senate? I'm sure a domestic abuser whose son was convicted of assault has a great chance of unseating incumbent democrats in the senate. Or perhaps he's gonna go after Spitzer instead? give me a break
