NEW YORK, Mar. 10, 2007
(AP) A second man has pleaded guilty to a hate crime for the racially motivated beatings of two Asian teens who were attacked last August.
Paul Heavey, a 21-year-old college student, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of third-degree assault as a hate crime. He had initially faced up to 15 years in prison, but now faces five years probation and 75 hours of community service at his May 21 sentencing, said Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. Heavey also must apologize...
...Cursing and spewing racial insults,
they slammed their car into Liang's white Lexus. When Liang pulled over to check his car for damage, Heavey and Brown began pummeling Liang and a second man, 19-year-old John Lu. Liang was battered with a metal automobile steering wheel lock.
