Nassau legislator's car vandalized

Nassau County Legislator David Mejias was preparing to jog at 8 o'clock Friday morning when he glanced at his car and noticed something written on the back window.

Mejias (D-North Massapequa), who said he is practicing for a half-marathon race on May 6, tried to wipe the words -- "Liberal Scum" -- off the 2005 BMW in his driveway. But the white paint had hardened. He then reported the act to the Nassau County Police's Eighth Precinct.

"I'd like to say that I couldn't believe it, but I know there are some small-minded people out there," said Mejias, who ran a strong but losing race last year against U.S. Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford), who Mejias accused of being President George W. Bush's puppet.

His mom's car was vandalized last year during the campaign. Well, at least it wasn't a racist slur (they're Latinos).
