Local polling is difficult and may be favorable to us at the moment, but let me list my reasons for confidence this time in winning the honest election scenario. My role is as a humble phone banker.
Kuhl, the blundering speaker and constant Bush voter, bailout flip-flopper can barely attract any new votes while Massa, building on the falling short effort last time is growing steadily, supported by the Obama surge in dem voters in a presidential cycle. Obama simply increases the number of Dem voters and discourages or switches GOP and Independent votes in a way that cannot leave a Bush GOP incumbent untouched. Nor does Massa have to slavishly politic for those coattails. He has differences with Obama on single payer health care, for one thing. Massa has developed greater range in issues and much better outreach to voters who, in certain regions, never got a fair presentation as to who he was. We have better organization and money. The sincere beginner of 2006 has quickly seasoned into a political wonder and one extremely prepared and experienced to take populist and progressive causes to DC the very first day.
I think we are on the path to a sold victory, necessarily narrow in this heavily GOP registered district. The campaign takes no corporate contributions whatsoever and people PAC's like the unions must give them a list of individual donors. At you can donate and help us pick up a seat, as the corporate big money is trying to keep one of their unpopular trolls beholden strictly to their agenda against the people and hope. This is not easy or sure, but it is one of the purest tests of grass roots money this year and Massa intends to represent that clout fully.
For those not familiar with Eric Massa, he is the retired Navy Commander, gunnery officer, recovered cancer victim from depleted uranium shells in the First Gulf War, aide to General Clark, his personal friend, in NATO and staff liaison to Congress. His strong differences with the GOP culminated in 2004 with leaving the disastrous, wrong-headed GOP for good and being very progressive ever since, more so than our own Dem Senators and most party leadership. He is in touch nonetheless with the issues facing the region and whatever positions argued down from Washington he takes people's concerns as a strong counterpoint, and must ever, considering the difficulty of winning the district. For the war the simplified position is out in less than 24 months, strong veteran benefits to take care of the returning, and real accountability to prevent this from ever happening again. www.massaforcongress.com
