2. Democrats regain control of the state Senate
Foley unseats Trunzo in state Senate race
Democrats regain control of the state Senate
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/politics/ny-livotelocal-main,0,5926318.story

In a blow to Republican hopes to hold control of the state Senate, Democrat Brian X. Foley defeated longtime Republican incumbent Caesar Trunzo in Suffolk County's Third Senatorial District.

With 96 percent of the vote counted, Foley was leading Trunzo 58 to 41 percent, according to unofficial election totals.

Trunzo took the podium at Suffolk Republican headquarters at 10:40 p.m. and conceded the contest to Foley. The crowd of about 200 greeted Trunzo with a thunderous applause. Trunzo congratulated Foley and said he was glad for the end of a "very long, tough campaign."

He asked the crowd to remember him as a senator who fought hard for his constituents. "I'm very proud of my work. At the same token, the reality is there," he said. "I've worked hard for the state of New York over the years."

4. Before I moved upstate
Trunzo was my Senator. I can't remember anyone else even being there. I remember Brian and he is a good one.

6. in Democratic control!!!!! in name only , for now - - - the "Gang of Four"

http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081105/NEWS/81105038/-1/rss01

The four Democratic senators met Wednesday with GOP leaders who hold the Senate majority at least until Jan. 1, according to Republicans and Democrats familiar with the meeting. The meeting was to discuss how the four might serve the GOP and what's in it for them should they defect, according to the officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity because leaders wouldn't confirm the talks.

The four independent-minded Democrats - often called the "Gang of Four" - historically have not been afraid to break ranks and support Republiacns. They also have clashed at times with Sen. Sen. Malcolm Smith of Queens, the presumptive next majority leader, and reportedly refused to attend a Democratic conference Wednesday called by Smith.

The senators are Ruben Diaz Sr. and Pedro Espada Jr., both of the Bronx; Carl Kruger of Brooklyn; and Hiram Monserrate of Queens.
